Its combination with Glass Units (IGUs) Insulating glass units (also referred to as double glazed units) consist of two panes of glass separated by a spacer around the edges and sealed to the perimeter in factory controlled conditions. The spacer contains a desiccant which eliminates moisture vapor in the cavity.

An important development in interior design in recent years has been the increasing use of glass. Office partitions often use glass a primary feature, and walls can be built from floor to ceiling. This is glass that has been especially toughened.


Although inexpensive, this system does not have any vertical mullions. The glass panels sit in a channel top and bottom, and are joined together using a bead of clear silicone. Like all form of glazing, the glass can be clear or tinted.

Doors normally have to be fitted with top and bottom pivots, and cannot be side hung (hinged) because of the weight. Usually this means the installation of recessed floor springs to act as a door “closer”, to prevent accidental slamming. Doors can be made to a standard height however, the panel above is secured to the panel either side with a “patch plate”, which is clamped in place and holds the top hinge.

Door Width: It is customary for office doors to be 838mm (2’9”) wide. This is for ease of moving furniture. Storerooms and toilets usually have 762mm (2’6”) doors, and sometimes 685mm (2’3”) doors are used when space is at a premium.

Door Height: Normal door height is 1981mm (6’6”); it is possible to have the doors made full height, which is much more impressive in boardrooms, executive offices, etc. Full height doors can be made in one panel, or with a 1981mm (6’6”) opening section and a matching fixed over panel. The top edge of the door can be rebated to the over panel where sound transmission is an issue.

Double Doors: All of the same criteria apply to double doors, with the addition of the central meeting styles.

Aluminium Framed Partitions

Aluminum Framed Partitions In essence, they are all variations on a theme. This partition is fully demountable, and alterations can easily be made. This partition system is not suitable where a high level of sound reduction required, but is perfect where glazing is required. Almost any color and finish is possible with this.
